Introduction to Rhetoric and Professional Writing

This class aimed to answer the question, "What can I do with an English degree?" We focused on creating a working definition of rhetoric, and examined the relationship between rhetoric and professional writing. In this class, we created documents and projects that applied principles of rhetoric and professional writing.

Infographic

Summary: I created the infographic on the right for Intro to Rhetoric & Professional Writing using Piktochart, an online infographic design program.  For this assignment, we were asked to design a well-researched infographic on a personal topic of interest.  I chose to research Starbucks and discovered several interesting facts about their organization as a whole.

Reflection: This was one of the first projects we created in Introduction to Rhetoric and Professional Writing, and it was unique in that this was my first experience designing a document of any kind. This project, which certainly forced me out of my comfort zone, turned out to be one of the more enjoyable projects of the semester. In order to effectively create this deliverable, research, editing, and document design skills were all required. In the process of developing this infographic, I gained a foundation upon which my design skills could grow, and was able to expand my writing capabilities beyond simple text and image compilations. After submitting this project for review, my professor provided me with an extensive amount of constructive criticism, that ultimately aided in my creation of another infographic for a Multi-Media Writing course I took later on.
