Capstone

This course, which is the final step towards completing a degree in the RPW program, was an opportunity to demonstrate mastery and integration of the skills, principles, and knowledge gained from the previous courses I had taken. This class required the application of that learning to projects for real-world clients, and helped students anticipate the attitudes and behaviors we would need in the workplace.

Harriet Beecher Stowe House:

Group Project

Summary: As part of the Capstone course, I worked in a group with five of my classmates for the Harriet Beecher Stowe House. We were tasked with redesigning their website, creating a comprehensive social media guide, designing Civil War museum panels, and suggesting possible events and partnerships.

Reflection: The Harriet Beecher Stowe House (HBSH) is located in Cincinnati, Ohio and is a non-profit organization dedicated to remembering the legacy of famous abolitionist author, Harriet Beecher Stowe. During my Capstone course, I was part of a semester-long project dedicated to improving the Harriet Beecher Stowe House's organization, in terms of their digital presence and through the creation of new branding materials. As a member of the HBSH team, I was heavily involved in the creation of a comprehensive social media guide for the organization. Myself and another team member worked extensively on this project to ensure the Harriet Beecher Stowe House could begin to develop a more lively social media presence through the use of Facebook, Instagram, and a blog. In addition to working on the social media guide, I was also responsible for editing/rewriting the walking tour and Catharine Beecher pages of the newly redesigned website.

This class, which focused on integrating the skills of the RPW program into a real-world scenario, greatly challenged my writing capabilities. This course also gave me a great deal of insight into how best to approach a client in the future, and how to effectively work as part of a team on a major project. By the end of the semester, my team and I had created several well-crafted deliverables that we hope the Harriet Beecher Stowe House continues to use for years to come.
